French
Polynesia, a place for a new gold rush ...
Middle
of the 16th century, the treasures of the South American people are
plundered, hundreds of conquistadors convoys are attacked by pirates.
Some of these buccaneers don’t hesitate to leave towards the unknown
to hide their spoils before coming back to their countries. Some of
them had to wait several decades before returning to unearth their
booty. However, sometimes, a few of them don’t have the occasion to
come back. That’s why tons of gold and objects coming from Peru have
been hidden in the Pacific, in French Polynesia, on the atoll of Tupai…
To date, and in spite of the vain and expensive researches, none of
the owners of this small island found this treasure which still
remains a mystery.
On the
basis of these historical realities in which remain many shadows,
modern treasure hunters will furrow the islands of French Polynesia.
Their objective: Tupai.
Starting in the first island, teams made of two people are asked to
find the sites of several challenges that they’ll have to perform in
the order they choose. For each successful challenge passed: a Tiki (a
statuette representing a Polynesian god). Our competitors will have to
gain a maximum of Tikis if they want to continue the adventure. Indeed,
in the evening, a council will meet in a “Marae” (ancient outside
Polynesian worship place made of basaltic stones), with the “Metua” (the
guide) of this adventure: a Polynesian high priest wearing his
traditional costume, surrounded by its guard of warriors. The team
which will have collected the less Tikis, and which thus, according to
the wise old man will not have shown sufficient bravery, will not
leave the island and will not be able to continue its quest towards
Tupai.
The
contenders will cross through a series of islands chosen among the 5
archipelagos which compose modern French Polynesia. They will have to
fight both the elements and the other teams in the lagoons, in the
mountains, close to cliffs, under cascades, in caves, in the middle of
luxuriant valleys… But only two teams will reach Tupai, and at the end
of a breathtaking finale only one will find the treasure which is
hidden there.
Because
in Polynesian mythology Tupai is also the island where the souls of
dead people were coming before voyaging into the sky, this adventure
will thus borrow Polynesian myths and legends. Thanks to the nature
and the context of the challenges that have to be performed, and also
thanks to the way that the rest of the adventure will be written, the
challengers will familiarize themselves with the mysterious and
ignored side of French Polynesia.
From
Tahiti to Tupai, who will stay in the race and who will bring back the
lost treasure? To know it, see you under the Tropics …
